OSTIA, OSTIA ANTICA AND OSTIA HARBOUR

Description:
Visit of Ostia Antica, with its Ancient Rome archaeological site, its old inhabited village, its new and modern harbour, and lunch at organic 
restaurant with local fresh fish and/or zero-mile vegetables and products

Morning: Pick up at  Fiumicino Airport (at the Ostia train station or at Rome hotel) with Tour Leader and visit of the Ostia Antica Archaeological site which still houses the remains of most of the city’s buildings before it was abandoned. We will see: the houses and shops which once thrived here, the taverns, inns, shops, public baths, Diana’s House, the the Thermopolium (where hot food used to be sold) and a large reconstructed amphitheatre which is still used during the Summer. 
Then we will visit the Borgo of Ostia Antica, the old village of Ostia which still inhabited and which still hosts a Castle. 
Lunch: We will have lunch with delicious and healthy food and wine in one of its organic restaurants that serve sustainably caught and local fish or zero-mile, organic, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free dishes and pizzas (pizza is served only at dinner)
Afternoon: In the afternoon we will meet the driver and head to Ostia’s newest harbour, inaugurated in 2001: “ a modern concept of touristic harbour, based on integrated structures” with 80 shops, a 833 boat slip, and exhibition areas. Then we will transfer to your Rome hotel or to the Ostia train station.

Extra possibilities and experiences in Ostia and Ostia Antica: Possibility of horse-back riding experiences on the beaches of Ostia and/or of a small cruise on Tiber river (to be booked at least one day in advance)

Other historical towns by the sea that deserve to be seen and that offer interesting cultural, food and wine, archaeological, outdoor experiences and itineraries with important archaeological sites and sustainable tourism options are : Anzio, Nettuno, Circeo, Sabaudia, and Terracina

Mattina: Pick up all’aeroporto di Fiumicino, alla stazione ferroviaria o all’hotel di Roma; Incontro con Accompagnatore e visita Parco Archeologico di Ostia Antica che conserva ancora oggi i resti della maggior parte degli edifici della città prima del suo abbandono. Vedremo: le case e i negozi che un tempo qui prosperavano, le osterie, i bagni pubblici, la Casa di Diana, il Thermopolium (dove si vendevano cibi caldi) e un grande anfiteatro ricostruito che viene ancora utilizzato durante l’estate.
Visiteremo poi il Borgo di Ostia Antica: l’antico borgo di Ostia ancora abitato e che ancora oggi ospita un Castello.
Pranzo: Pranzeremo con cibi e vini deliziosi e salutari in un ristorante biologico che serve piatti di pesce locale e sostenibile e prodotti a chilometro zero, biologici, vegetariani, vegani o senza glutine
Pomeriggio: Nel pomeriggio incontreremo l’autista e ci recheremo al nuovo porto di Ostia, inaugurato nel 2001: “un moderno concetto di porto turistico, basato su strutture integrate” con 80 negozi, 833 posti barca e aree espositive. Poi vi porteremo al vostro hotel di Roma o alla stazione ferroviaria di Ostia.

Possibilità ed esperienze extra a Ostia e Ostia Antica: Possibilità di escursioni a cavallo sulle spiagge di Ostia; Piccola crociera sul fiume Tevere (da prenotare con almeno un giorno di anticipo).
